Kinetics Lab

Run your own reaction chamber, find the order of a mystery reaction, practise every kinetics calculation with animated worked solutions, sort the big ideas and see kinetics at work in food, medicine and cars. Nothing here is graded.

Part 1: Reaction Chamber

A + B → AB. Only collisions with enough energy AND the gold side of A facing B react.

Each collision's energy is worked out from the two particles' speeds along the line between their centres, on a scale where the average energy matches RT. A reaction happens only if that energy is at least Ea and A's gold side faces B. Activation energies are scaled down (real ones are often 40 to 150 kJ/mol) so you can watch reactions happen in seconds. Each particle stands for 0.010 M.
