Rate Laws: Order From Initial Rates

A mystery reaction A + B → products hides its orders. Run it at concentrations you choose, compare two runs at a time, then set the orders until your rate law matches every run.

Initial rate against [A] dots are your runs

Does your law match each run? on the line means exact

Mix 1Pick concentrations, then run. Change one at a time.

Compare two runs

Record at least two runs, then compare them here.

Your guess at the orders

order in A, m1
order in B, n1
rate = k[A][B]
Record a run and the fit appears here.
How to do this
Change one thing at a time
Hold [B] fixed and double [A]. If the rate doubles, the order in A is 1. If it goes up four times, the order is 2. If nothing changes, the order is 0.
