The rate constant answers to the barrier and to the temperature through k = A e−Ea/RT. Move the sliders and watch both plots, then read Ea back off the slope.
The Arrhenius plot a straight line, every time
The rate constant against temperature log scale upward
T = 300 KNear room temperature. Slide the temperature and watch k climb.
Numbers behind the picture
Rate constant k
9.97 x 10^-4 per second
RT
2.49 kJ/mol
Ea divided by RT
33.3
Share over the barrier
3.5 x 10^-15
Slope of the line
-9983 K
Intercept, ln A
26.36
k grows by this much per 10 K
2.93 times
Warming needed to double k
6.4 K
k = 2.82 x 10^11 times e^(-33.3)
Read Ea back from two points
Two measurements are enough.
What to notice
Temperature sits inside an exponent
A small warming moves the exponent only a little, yet k can double. Raise the barrier instead and the whole line tilts down, because the slope is minus Ea divided by R.
