Chemistry · Chapter 9

Dalton's Law and Partial Pressures

Add gases to a flask by mass and watch the total pressure split among them. The share each gas takes follows its count of particles, not its mass.

The flask colors match the gases

A gas mixture in a flask and its pressure split into parts total pressure in the flask PRESSURE SPLIT Each block is one gas. Block heights add to the total. mole fractions

Splitting the total

GasmolesXP (atm)

Mole fractions always add to 1. Multiply any mole fraction by the total pressure and you get that gas's own share.
