Take the Socks Off: Red Flags, Sick Days and Discharge

The complications of diabetes are prevented at the bedside by three unglamorous habits: taking the socks off, checking a glucose on every confused patient, and making sure the patient can actually perform at home the regimen you documented as taught. Work an assignment in priority order, coach a patient through a sick day, delegate inside the RN scope, and catch the teach-back statements that will put someone in a wound clinic.
