Med-Surg Nursing II · Module 6 · Musculoskeletal disorders and orthopedic trauma

Musculoskeletal and Orthopedic Trauma Lab

Run a casted leg where swelling, a tight wrap, limb position and ice push compartment pressure around, practice orthopedic decisions without limit, race the clock sorting complications, precautions and lab patterns, and work through cases with fictional patients.

Part 1: Compartment Explorer

Your jobYou are the nurse for a patient with a tibia fracture in a cast. Raise the swelling and watch compartment pressure, delta pressure and the six Ps change. Then do the right first actions, in the right position, and get the surgeon involved before the ischemia clock runs out. Complete the challenges on the right.

Live readouts

Teaching model with simplified, rounded numbers. Delta pressure = diastolic blood pressure minus compartment pressure; under 30 mmHg indicates fasciotomy. Real patients vary; follow orders and protocols.
