Med-Surg Nursing I · Module 8 · Coronary artery disease and heart failure

Coronary Artery Disease and Heart Failure Lab

Change heart rate, blood pressure, stenosis and hemoglobin and watch a heart tip into ischemia, practice with unlimited questions at three levels, race the clock sorting findings, and reason through bedside scenarios with fictional adults. Nothing here is graded.

Part 1: Supply and Demand Explorer

Teaching modelSupply and demand are shown as simple index numbers, not real measurements. They capture the chapter's ideas: flow through a narrowed artery, oxygen carried by hemoglobin, diastolic filling time, and demand from heart rate and blood pressure.

Your jobMove the sliders and medicine switches to see when demand outruns supply. Then complete the four challenges below the controls.

How the model works: supply = flow capacity of the artery (falls steeply above about 70 percent stenosis) × share of each minute in diastole × hemoglobin ÷ 14. Demand = heart rate ÷ 70 × systolic pressure ÷ 120. A beta-blocker lowers rate, pressure and contractility; nitroglycerin lowers preload and dilates the coronary a little. When supply ÷ demand falls below 1, the monitor shows ST depression.
