We like to think our judgments are our own. Two of sociology's most unsettling experiments say otherwise: Solomon Asch showed that a unanimous group can talk you out of what your own eyes report, and Stanley Milgram showed that an ordinary person in a lab coat can talk you into harming a stranger. Run both experiments below — change the group, move the authority — and watch where the pressure comes from.
