The Figure Dossier

A visual dropped into a document with no introduction is an orphan. Adopt this one: give it a number and a title, a callout in the prose, a caption, a source line, real alt text, and a colour scheme that survives a black-and-white printer. Then print it, hear it through a screen reader, and rehearse the spoken version against a running clock.

Four moves, in an order that works: orient, point, interpret, land. Reorder them with the arrows, then rehearse against a real clock.

Orient, point, interpret, land. Notice what a good talk track never does: it never reads the axis labels aloud, and it never says “as you can see”. If they can see it, you do not have to say it.
