Check the Order: The Ten Rights

An order is not permission — it is a claim you have to verify. Five of these six orders are broken, each in a different place. Tap each right to check it against the armband, the order, and the label in your hand.

Case 1

Six orderstap each right to check it
Before the first doseVerifying the rights is a nurse function and it is not delegable. The prescriber writes the order; the pharmacist dispenses; you are the last checkpoint before the drug is in the patient. If any right does not check out, the drug does not go in — you clarify with the prescriber first.
Read the label three times: when you pull the drug, when you prepare it, and when you give it (or return it to stock).
