Bowel Obstruction

When the gut plumbing backs up · Week 13
Block the intestine and everything behind the block backs up and swells. Where the block sits changes the whole picture. A small-bowel block makes the patient vomit early, and the belly swells only a little. A large-bowel block stops stool and gas for good, and the belly blows up over days. Pick a level, then look at what causes it.

The blockage

Bowel loops before the block fill with gas and fluid, so they swell. Nothing gets past to the other side.
