The Therapeutic Window

A good antimicrobial follows one rule. Harm the microbe and spare the host. In practice that means dosing into a band. High enough to work. Low enough to be safe. Slide the dose and watch it cross from too low, into the window, and on up to toxic. Then switch to the time view. Give real doses on a clock and draw a trough.

MEC is the minimum effective concentration. MTC is the minimum toxic concentration. The green band between them is the therapeutic window. Dose runs on a relative 0 to 100 scale, because real blood levels differ for every drug.
