Medical Terminology · Chapter 13

The Mental Status Sorter

Psychiatric terms are built from the same parts as the rest of medicine, but the words that matter most are separated by meaning, not by word part: mood and affect, delusion and hallucination, obsession and compulsion, delirium and dementia. Read each line from an intake, name the term that belongs, then name the word part that carried the meaning. The ledger on the right unlocks a contrast every time you separate one cleanly.

Why that word and not the other

Pick a term on the left. Then a second question follows: which word part actually carried the meaning? Answering both is what turns a lucky guess into a decode you can repeat.
