Heart Failure Sign Engine

You never have to memorise two lists. Name the failing side and you can predict the findings — the left ventricle backs up into the lungs, the right ventricle backs up into the body. Switch the failing chamber, drag the ejection fraction, turn each compensation on and off, and watch the signs appear with the mechanism that produced them.
Which ventricle is failing?
Ejection fraction
Normal 55–70 percent. HFrEF is 40 percent or less; 41–49 is mildly reduced; HFpEF is 50 percent or higher.
Neurohormonal compensation
How sick is the patient right now?
Natriuretic peptide
