A ten-item practice screen, each item scored 0 to 3 for a maximum of 30, built on the structure of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. It deliberately contains no items about fatigue or sleep disturbance — those are universal after birth and would inflate every score.
Teach by symptom, in plain language, and give it in writing to more than one adult in the household — a parent who is bleeding, febrile or depressed is not the best keeper of her own instructions.
