The Call, the Handoff and the Hands

Between visits, the family is the monitoring system, so danger-sign teaching is a clinical intervention rather than a courtesy — and the phone is where most of it is tested. Triage real calls to the right disposition, assemble an SBAR that puts the ask in the recommendation, and then decide which antepartum tasks can be handed to someone else and which never leave the registered nurse.
