The Changes of Midlife

Middle adulthood — roughly 40 to 65 — is when the body's slow decline becomes visible. Most of it is gradual, but one change, menopause, arrives as a clear event. Tap each change to see what happens, why it matters, and what helps.

Eight changes, one decade or twoSome midlife changes are primary aging — biological and universal, like the stiffening lens behind presbyopia. Others are secondary — sped up by sun, smoking, or inactivity, and largely within your control. Tap any change to see which is which.
The climacteric. The whole midlife reproductive transition is called the climacteric. In women it ends in a clear, dateable event — menopause, confirmed after 12 months with no period. In men there is only a slow, partial decline and no defined end to fertility.
